Breathing Fresh Air (a work-in-progress)

Everett Stage, 9 Duncan Ave, Providence, RI

A truth-telling poet and a storytelling liar… Words will fly. Starring Christopher Johnson and Mark Binder A chance encounter during dance rehearsals for Bill T Jones' "What Problem" brought together two of Rhode Island's best-known wordsmiths. Between story and poetry, truth and lies, Two Guys Project explores the boundaries of friendship with a breath of fresh air.

Breathing Fresh Air (a work-in-progress) Seeking shelter from a tornado, a Black Man and a white man find themselves in a right-wing MAGA bunker. Trapped until the storm passes, they swap stories, and unpack opinions and ingrained biases about one another based on upbringing, media and economic differences of the world they share. In “Breathing Fresh Air” wordslingers Christopher Johnson and Mark Binder dance around landmine topics such as the various forms of racism, marginalization and privilege, before confronting issues that are rarely addressed with the “othered” societal counterpart. Partial funding for this program came from the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture, and Tourism.
